Matt’s Thoughts on the Practice of Law

While the lawyer cannot change the underlying facts or events in a given case, they can impact the final result through long hours and old-fashioned hard work – striving to out-work, out-prepare, out-research, and out-organize the other side. Hard work in a case with a good set of facts can often achieve better results than originally anticipated. Hard work in a case with a bad set of facts can often have the effect of leveling the playing field, thereby also achieving better results than originally anticipated. Absent settlement the final outcome in a litigated matter is ultimately determined by a judge or jury, but attention to detail and long hours can without question influence that outcome.
